Rachel Bauer Design: Family Room Week #4

orc

It’s week #4 of the six week One Room Challenge. I am updating my Family Room.  If you’re new to my blog, you can catch up here on Week #1, Week #2, and Week #3.

This week I focused on buying all the outstanding items I needed for my Family Room transformation.

Item #1:  TV Console

TV cabinet - before.

TV cabinet – before.

Our existing TV console is from Ikea and had been in my daughter’s room until we redid her space for my last ORC.  We traded it out with the gray TV cabinet from Uttermost that was in our Family Room at that time.  It’s a nice piece, but was entirely too small for the room and the TV.  It fits much better in Tabitha’s room.

The Ikea piece is a good size for our Family Room, but it looks a little too Ikea-y.  Plus our components don’t fit in the shelves, so they have to sit on top of the cabinet.  I’ve done a little shopping and here are a few options for its replacement:

Option #2 is my favorite, but it was really too small for our my husband’s giant TV.  I love it’s cool gold hardware though.  So after going home and measuring, I went back to buy it (even though it was a bit small,) and it was gone.  One thing about the ORC timeline, it doesn’t allow for indecision.  So I picked one of the other options, and I’m happy with how it looks in the space.

Item #2: New Sofa

As I mentioned last week, I should have ordered a new sofa the very first day of the ORC, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted.  I just ordered something yesterday (yes, about a month after starting this project.)  I ordered it through Wayfair. I have a trade account with them and my account manager called the vendor directly to see if they could expedite shipping for me, and they said they would.  I still think it probably won’t get here in time, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.  I’ll show you some of the items I considered, but I’ll save my final selection for the reveal (unless it’s not here yet!)

The last purchase I tackled this week was new dog bowls and fountain.  Our current setup looks like this:

It’s a mess of unmatched bowls and a plastic water dish that  I just added because our flower pet fountain in the back just quit working.  It’s still there and plugged in because I have this hope that it will miraculously start working again.  I conceded last night though and purchased this new pet fountain:

I love how you don’t see the cord in this picture.  It’s like it miraculously bubbles up from a spring when the kitty is near (I’m going to have to work on hiding my cord.)  I also snuck out from my daughter’s middle school football game that she was going to be dancing at for the halftime show to run to Hobby Lobby and pick up this:

(And I made it back in time for the halftime performance!)  I plan to “design and decorate 2 cool dog bowls”  for Samson and Delilah.  My hope is to make something like these beautiful bowls:

If you’ve read my other blogs, you know I go overboard a bit to decorate for our animals.  There’s the dog beds I made for Samson and Delilah with their silhouettes on them:

Then there’s the window seat I created for Poe:

In fact that whole room was designed for him.

Now I want to create a beautiful and functional area in my Kitchen where all the animals (two dogs and two cats) can get water and the dogs can be fed in style.  Is that too much to ask?  Please check out ORC Wednesday participants here and the other Thursday participants here.  Have a great week and a Happy Halloween!
