My birthday was this weekend, and my husband, Jimmy, gave me his favorite go-to for presents (except maybe electronics)—a purse. He likes that he doesn’t have to worry if it’s the right size. One Christmas he gave me three pair of boots so that one pair would be the right size. Purses are much simpler.
Well, my new purse is the most beautiful yellow. It’s been raining here for days, and I keep looking at my yellow purse and it brightens my day. It even has a shoulder strap so I can enjoy a little sunshine on my shoulder!
I started writing this and was taking the above picture, when I remembered my favorite birthday gift last year was also a sunny yellow.
My DeWalt drill! I love it. Our previous drill was something Jimmy got when he was in the army years ago. It looked like it was from World War II and it had no battery, just a power cord that was two feet long at most, which meant you could only drill within a two foot radius of the nearest power outlet. Not very handy.
Now some other favorite yellow things (Jimmy keep these in mind for my next birthday):
Jan Showers’ Lemon Drop lamp with its gorgeous yellow blown glass!
These throw pillows from Eastern Accents.
Chunky amber jewelry. This one I found on Etsy in lilruby’s shop.
Yellow window treatments. This is the Living Room of the National Symphony Orchestra showhouse from several years ago when I worked at Brown-Davis Interiors. The window treatments in the back of the room were faux mink, which I also love and is a topic for future blog.
Here’s another example. This is a yummy yellow linen sheer we did in one of my client’s homes. I love the yellow and gray together.
Yellow crewel—this one’s from Highland Court. I have a client who is crazy about this fabric too. I hope we get to use it somewhere in her house.
So if you’re tired of the gray, rainy winter, like I am, look around for unexpected bits of sunshine.
