Thanks for checking again on our progress for this Spring’s One Room Challenge. I’m redecorating my daughter, Tabitha’s, room this time around. Thank you to Linda at Calling It Home, who hosts this event twice a year. It’ a six week long blog event where 20 participants and many more linking participants spend the weeks designing one room and blogging about it. You can catch my first, second, third , and fourth ORC’s here. To see my progress this time around, see Week 1 and Week 2.
So far, I’ve interviewed contractors and hired one. He was fishing all weekend and didn’t get back to me too quickly, but (fingers crossed) he’ll actually show up and get the job done. He can’t start until next Thursday. so Tabitha and I are doing small projects in the space until he’s done. This week we worked a little on the art. Tabitha had the idea to have a huge picture wall based loosely on this image:

Collage of random pictures on wall.
She likes the randomness of the collection. I don’t really have a random bone in my body–I like order, so this was hard for me. We started with this book of prints that we got from Hobby Lobby:

We framed most of these prints and purchased a few other pieces and started laying out a composition for the gallery wall. We can’t hang it until the contractor is finished painting, but I took pictures and measurements of our composition and hopefully it will easy to recreate on the wall.

We also worked on organization this week. Tabitha has a small walk-in closet with two handing rods with shelves above. She prefers to have most of her clothes folded so the hanging rods were practically empty. I decided to remove one all together and replace it with open shelves. Then I added store-bought organization units above and below the other hanging rod to maximize her storage.

We also re-organized her Bathroom vanity. It was a hot mess of random medicines, eye care products, soaps, etc. Recently we relocated the cats’ food dishes up here from Poe’s bathroom. A few weeks ago week adopted cat #2, Meredith.

Sweet Meredith!
Since then, we’ve been keeping the cat food in Tabitha’s bathroom and have added a baby gate to the door so the dogs can’t get in and eat it. The litter box is still down in the bathtub in Poe’s Room. Since the cat food is up here, we needed a space to store it, so we cleaned out Tabitha’s vanity and got rid of the extra stuff (she doesn’t need 12 contact lens cases!) We added a small stacking drawer unit on the right for ther eye care, cleansers, etc. and reused the shelf unit on the left for cat care and it’s so much better:

That’s about it for this week. I really need the contractor to do his part and then we can get our part done. This week we are going to clear the space for the contractor and redo a desk/dressing table that we are planning to use for a dressing table (unless Tabitha decides against it–she’s kind of on the fence.)
Have a great week. Happy Earth Day!
