It’s that time again! Linda at Calling It Home hosts a biannual six week long blog fest where 20 participants and many more linking participants spend the weeks redecorating one room and blogging about it. It’s been the kick in the pants I need to get my house whipped into shape. Here you can see my first, second, and third ORC’s. This time around, I’ve chosen to redo my downstairs guest room, which we refer to as Poe’s room.

Poe
Poe is our new kitten. He joined our family in early July and he’s a sweetie! We needed a place to keep his litter and food where our dogs, Samson and Delilah, can’t get to it, so we decided to give him this space. The food and litter are in the attached bathroom and I’m using the baby gate my mom used when I was a baby (!) to keep the dogs out.

The room hasn’t had much done to it since we moved here in 2014. It kind of got all the leftover furniture. Here’s what it looks like now.

I’m keeping the bed and I have two of the X-benches, which I’m going to have reupholstered for the end of the bed.

I’ll make a new window treatment and need new bedside tables and lamp
Here’s the plan:

Poe’s Plan
I tried to get Poe’s input about what he wanted the space to be like, but he just kept attacking my feet. Poe is my daughter, Tabitha’s, cat and Tabitha’s favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, so I think I’ll give Poe (and our occasional guests) a room that would be fitting for Holly Golightly and cat. Of course, although Holly’s apartment in the movie is pretty amazing, she felt she was a drifter and the place had a temporary feel.
I don’t want to own anything until I know I’ve found the place where me and things belong together. I’m not quite sure where that is just yet. But I know what it’s like. It’s like Tiffany’s. If I could find a real-life place that’d make me feel like Tiffany’s, I’d buy some furniture and give the cat a name. –Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
So this room is going to combine Holly’s bohemian lifestyle and her Tiffany’s inspired elegance (hopefully.) And here are a few images that are inspiring me:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

I’m thinking about painting the bed gold like this one from Bernhardt!

Poe’s room should have a glamorous vanity like Holly’s.

I think I’ll makeover a dated bedside chest with paint like this one from Migonis Home.

Thanks for reading. Please tune in next week to see the progress and go here to see the 20 ORC participants’ projects and here to see the other linking participants’ work.

That Bernhardt bed slays me every time I see it. So amazing!!! Good luck and looking forward to following along:)
Love your inspiration, Rachel. I can’t wait to see your progress.xx
Just a heads up, the majority of the photos aren’t loading. I don’t know if anyone else is having the same problem…
That’s for the heads up. I’m not the most savvy blogger!
